Although Sweetwater County does not have as much information regarding public marriage records on its website or an index through which interested parties can search, the County’s website does state that at a nominal fee of $1, someone can obtain an unofficial copy of a marriage certificate.⁴

However, there are more restrictions to obtaining a certified copy of the marriage certificate as this information can only be accessed from the Vital Statistics Services Office within Wyoming. Additionally, records for marriages that occurred over 50 years ago can be retrieved by contacting the County Clerk to determine the best means for access.

In Fremont County Wyoming, certified marriage records can only be obtained through the Department of Health.

However, applicants who received their marriage license from the Fremont County Clerk’s office can retrieve those records if they complete a certified marriage license request form. The form must be printed and mailed to the county clerk’s office with a $5 payment enclosed, and callers can also call the county clerk’s office (307.332.2405) to pay the $5 using a credit card.

How To Track Family Marriage Records Through Archive Indexes in Wyoming

Those who have strong roots in Wyoming can find out more about their family genealogy by conducting a search of family marriage records.

The Wyoming State Archives permits searchers to obtain archaic records such as original marriage licenses and applications,⁵ as well as affidavits that support the marriage application. These records span periods from 1989 to as far back as the 19th century.

The document itself will tell the inquirers where the record of the nuptial can be obtained.

For example, they will state the county that holds the records and direct them to the physical storage location of the documents. Subsequently, the documents can only be obtained by going to the location where they have been stored.

Knowing the approximate year, and more important, the day the ancestors got married will be especially useful when searching the marriage records held by the state archives. Moreover, the archivist is available to help those who need help finding records.

How To Submit a Marriage License Application in Wyoming

In Wyoming, marriage license applications are filed with the county from which a party is interested in obtaining the license. Generally, in order to submit the application, the applicant must establish that he or she is 18 years or older.

Applicants as young as 16 and 17 years old can obtain a marriage license if their parents or guardians approve. For example, in Teton County, applicants can obtain the records if they complete the requisite questionnaire and provide their photo identification, and a fee of $30 to the local County Clerk’s Office.
